During COVID, my daughter struggled with her first-grade homework, often feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and anxious; she demanded to be alone in her room. I reached out by slipping questions under her door. I asked her about what she was dealing with. As you can imagine, her responses were curt, yet creative and colorful. All of that told me she was processing.
This experience taught me that good writing is clear thinking – a critical tool for academic and social-emotional learning. Today my daughter is independent, aware, and capable. Between her mom and me and finding methods to express herself, she is thriving.
I’ve been a published writer and know a thing or two about the power of writing. My work can be seen in newspapers and magazines – notably The Boston Globe Magazine. I also have business experience in banking, real estate, and education as a marketer, trainer, and adjunct teacher. These experiences taught me that if you want to learn about anything exceptionally well, teach it to other people. For me, it was writing.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me on the golf course, on the couch reading, and walking my dog. My family’s “things” are tennis, games, oscar-nominated movies, a good TV show, and, most importantly, being with each other. It’s nice!
