Who is Your Next Phrase?
Your Next Phrase is a tutoring service that helps students in 3rd through 9th grade build their math and writing skills.
Our goal is for students to learn the subjects and, at the same time, develop soft skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, resiliency, self-discipline, and emotional intelligence.
These skills help students with short-term academic achievement and sets them up for success in high school, college, and in their career. For more, please see our services page.
Do you offer middle school tutoring in-person or virtually?
All of our sessions are virtual for 50-minutes. For in-person tutoring please call us at (857) 891 – 5844. Each situation is considered on a case-by-case basis. Travel fees may apply.
What is a typical middle school tutoring session like?
At the beginning, middle, and end of every session, we ask a lighthearted question students spend 2-3 minutes answering in any constructive form whether it is writing, drawing, movement, or some other comforting way.
Depending on the question, students may discover learning barriers; new skills and ways of learning that they have identified; topics they are curious about, and how they are feeling about what is happening during the lesson – critical skills to become active, lifelong learners.
What are your hours?
Every family is different so we like to discuss this to see what’s best. We do not accept calls or texts after 8:45 p.m. on any night.
What are your hours?
Every family is different so we like to discuss this to see what’s best for the student. Although we do our best to meet all of our clients needs in a timely fashion, we want to be at our best each and every day. Therefore, we do not accept calls or texts after 8:45 p.m.
What is your approach to tutoring?
We meet students where they’re at and go from there. Our approach helps students recognize ways of learning that will become their learning assets. From there, we help them find ways to protect and anticipate when they’ll need them.
What is your educational background and experience in tutoring middle school students?
I’ve tutored college students in Pre-Algebra while attending the University of Hartford. I’ve also been an adjunct faculty member at Bunker Hill Community College where I taught marketing and management. My son attends the Russian School of Mathematics and I tutor him when he needs it.
In addition, I have a BBA from The George Washington University and an MBA from Northeastern University. I’ve worked in banking, real estate, and consumer products. I’ve also been published in numerous publications, including The Boston Globe.
What is Express-to-Learn?
Express-to-Learn is our methodology we use to help students learn math and English while building soft skills.
At the beginning, middle, and end of every session, we ask students a lighthearted question; students then spend 2-3 minutes answering it in any constructive form whether it is writing, drawing, movement, or some other comforting way.
This exercise helps students discover learning barriers, ways of overcoming their barriers, and how their reactions and actions to deal with them drive lesson outcomes. Please see our services page and case study for more information.
How do you assess a student's needs and tailor your sessions to address them?
Each child has unique interests and life circumstances. To help them succeed, we need to understand them as individuals, building a connection through conversations that guide them through the material.
In sessions, we’re talking with students all of the time. We want them engaged constantly. Conversation helps us keep a pulse on what the student is dealing with so we can change gears with minimal disruption regardless if it’s to pull back, challenge, or just listen and help them deal with whatever is going on for them.
Do you use AI during sessions?
Not usually. We do it the traditional way – with paper and pencil.
Writing slows down the learning process so students spend more time interacting with the material. Only through interaction can students discover what they need in order to learn how they learn.
These discoveries are the ones that will prepare them for lifelong learning.
